I also have gastric reflux. Now I am taking three blood pressure med's. " - John B, Vacaville , CA
Kidney: Vioxx User: 5 months - " I have never had any Kidney problems in the past until I began taking Vioxx for severe painful menstrual periods. Soon thereafter I began passing Kidney stones frequently, kept getting Kidney infections and bladder infections. I suffered such a bad Kidney infection recently that I was admitted to the hospital. It was found that not only did I have a small cyst forming on my right Kidney, the infection had moved into my bloodstream, causing me to become very very toxic/septic. My White Blood Cell count was over 22,000.00. Which, as a health care worker myself, is, I should have been dead. I had to go have and IVP done, Xrays, etc....expensive tests. I suffered from high blood pressure while I was in the hospital, which is something I don't have high blood pressure. I also had to do two 24 hour and an 48 hour urine test. This entire time on Vioxx, I was constantly having lower back pain, therefore my Urologist instructed me to take the Vioxx for the pain!!! So not only was I taking it for menstrual pain, I was now taking it for Kidney pain!!!! I was had to go to a rehab facility to continue recieving antibiotics via a PICC line. Now...after I think I'm in the clear, once again I am struck with yet another bladder infection with some right posterior flank pain, and am running to and from St. Elizabeth's Infusion Center to recieve yet MORE antibiotics via IV line in an emergent effort to keep this infection from moving into my kidneys and into my blood again. I believe that VIOXX has done some kind of permanent damage to my Kidneys. Studies have shown I have too much protien in my urine, and while I am only 5 foot tall, 118 lbs and athletic, I am having some problems with occasional ankle edema. It isn't bad edema, but I can see it when I take my socks off, there is a definite pressure "dent" where the elastic of my socks were!!! I am not at all happy about this. Please review my case, and please see if there is something that can be done about something I shouldn't have had to go through, and shouldn't be chronically bothered by these continual bladder and kidney infections!!! - Stefanie C, Lincoln , NE
