Deep Vein Thrombosis : Vioxx User: 2+Years - " I've had re-occurring rapid heart palpitations that felt like my heart would beat out of my chest, headache, dizziness, weak and tired, nausea -heartburn - stomach pain and stomach upsets - diarrhea - vomiting, back pains, swelling in my legs and feet. Deep Vein Thrombosis: Vioxx User: 4-5 Years - " I have been prescribed Vioxx for 4-5 years for back problems, and chronic migraine headaches. I don't know if this has caused any damage, or made my headaches worse, or has caused unforeseen problems in the future, i.e. kidney problems, blood clots, etc. I did have a large vein in my left leg swell up that could be DVT and/or blood clots. I never got it checked, and just assumed it would go away.   But after reading all about the hazards of taking Vioxx, it certainly does concern me now.   My mother has taken Vioxx for a lot longer time than myself for Rheumatoid Arthritis, and it really scares me for her. Deep Vein Thrombosis: Vioxx User: 3 months - " I was prescribed Vioxx once before for pain that was diagnosed as arthritis in the lower back.   It was later discovered that I had a herniated L-5 disc that was operated on in April 03.   When I was on this medication I had severe calf cramps that were merely dismissed by my doctor.   I was also prescribed Vioxx in July 04 again for back pain. I had the same calf cramps that were experienced before but were dismissed again by another doctor.   I continued to take the medication until it was gone which was sometime in October of 04. I have not refilled the medication since then because of the calf cramps that were experienced; I just decided that the side effects were not worth it. I now believe that the pain I experienced was deep vein thrombosis. " - Melissa C. Bluffs, Iowa

Deep Vein Thrombosis: Vioxx User: 2+ Years - " I am 40 yrs. old. I have a Masters Degree in Chemistry. I am currently on SS disability due to a congenital joint disorder. I worked for Exxon 10+ yrs. until my disability made that impossible. In 5/02, I started to see a new dr. and he stated I should be taking an anti-inflammatory. He provided samples of Vioxx to me for at least the next 6mos. until he ran out. (note the drug greatly reduced my knee pain)I was getting scripts, which at times were money prohibited. I started getting Vioxx from Merck patient assistance for free in 4/03. I did not get my 10/04 supply from Merck,but filled it at a pharmacy. Merck sent me a list of all the adverse effects of Vioxx & it answered a lot of questions for me. I thought I was going crazy. I suffered from rapid heart beat, pressure on my chest, angina, numb hands and arms,& the worst-unable to swollow.I thought I was having some kind of subconscious anxiety. On a mental note, I was good. I take other meds, but I have been taking those other meds for more than a decade and never felt like that. When I could not swallow (and the few mos. before the drug was pulled, it seemed to be often) I felt like I could not breath and I was going to die. This was witnessed by other people. In conversation, I would just stop,hold my neck, try to cough, speak, swallow, breath, anything, but it seemed like that system was paralyzed. Deep Vein Thrombosis : Vioxx User: 4-5 Years - " I had an MRI about 1-1/2 yrs. ago to help determine why I was having dizzy spells after I had rotator cuff surgery.   It was of the upper back and head to check my balance center.   It showed a slight blockage in the upper back that feeds the brain, so I saw a Cardiovascular Dr. and he felt it wasn't anything to be concerned about and when I eventually went to a vertigo therapist, he was able to shift a small piece of calcium in the inner ear and after that I wasn't dizzy all the time any more, so I don't know if you would call that a deep vein thrombosis that was discovered in the MRI.   Other than that I didn't have any other adverse effects that I am aware of, but of course when the news broke, my Dr. took me off the Vioxx immediately. “- Bonnie R, Aberdeen , SD

Deep Vein Thrombosis : Vioxx User: 2 1/2 Years – " I took vioxx for 2 to 2 1/2 years .during that time I had to undergo 2 surgeries to implant 3 different stents due to blockage of the arteries in my heart. Since I quit taking vioxx.(about a year ago)I have had no blockage. I also suffered muscle cramps, fatigue. Which was my main reason for stopping the treatment's also suffered from chest pain.
