The victim of a South College hit-and-run automobile accident was in critical condition Sunday and his father has asked that anyone with information come forward.
University of North Carolina Pembroke student Daniel Khan was crossing the 400 block of the street with some friends about a.m. Saturday when a gold sedan heading southbound struck him, according to authorities.
He was still breathing with the aid of a ventilator Sunday night after suffering serious head trauma that required surgery, said his father, Summy Khan, at a news conference Sunday night.
“I just feel like I need to do something. I don’t want this to go cold,” said Khan, a former Marine who was stationed at Camp Lejeune.
Investigators also released a new piece of information. The vehicle they are looking for would have damage to its driver side, they believe, possibly around the front door or front corner, said Wilmington Police Department Officer Brandon Reece.
Investigators on the scene had spoken to witnesses and were following up on viable leads, he said.
Additional information, such as any information on the car’s license plate, could prove helpful, Reece added.
Summy, who lives in Salisbury, said his family has gathered at New Hanover Regional Medical Center to support his son. He said he plans to stay until his son opens his eyes.
Daniel Khan is a “good all-around kid” who made UNC Pembroke’s honor roll, studies human resources and participates in a fraternity, his father said.
Speaking out about the incident is not about getting revenge but seeking information, Summy Khan said.
“Do the right thing and step up,” he urged. “We all make mistakes.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Wilmington police at 343-3600 or text a tip to CRIMES (463) and start the text with TIP-0.
