An initiative to fight concert ticket fraud was launched this week.
Industry trade body STAR, the Society of Ticket Agents & Retailers, has unveiled a kitemark that identifies “reputable” outlets which follow the organisation’s code of conduct and are authorised to sell tickets by event organisers.
The red, black and white kitemark shows a star inside a padlock, accompanied by the words “secure tickets from authorised retailers”. It can already be seen on the websites of leading agencies such as Ticketmaster, See Tickets, Stargreen, TicketWeb and WeGotTickets, all members of STAR.
STAR said official estimates suggest that the cost of online ticket fraud alone is £168m a year. The consequences can be devastating for the buyer.
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a Bayview district gunbattle last month in which a 5-year-old girl was wounded when she was caught in the crossfire, San Francisco police said Thursday.
The suspect, whose name was withheld because he is a minor, was arrested after a foot chase near Kirkwood Avenue and Mendell Street about 4 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
The girl was walking with her father on Third Street near Palou Avenue when two young men began shooting at each other shortly before 4:30 p.m. Sept. 20, police said.
The two fired a total of four shots. The 5-year-old, who was shot in the left knee, was the only person hit.
The girl’s father flagged down officers, who called for paramedics.

CHAPEL HILL — Federal prosecutors punched back at John Edwards this week in hundreds of pages of court documents arguing that his attempt to get his criminal case dropped were meritless.
They contend that secret payments from two wealthy benefactors to Rielle Hunter, the campaign videographer with whom Edwards had an affair and a child, were illegal campaign contributions, not gifts as the former senator and U.S. presidential candidate argues.
In documents filed late Monday and Tuesday, prosecutors match point for point arguments made by Edwards’ defense team earlier this month when they asked a federal judge to dismiss the charges.

A man was shot Sunday morning, but nobody noticed the wound to his chest until he arrived at a church two-and-a-half hours later, the transit agency said.
Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said the 53-year-old man remained in a medically induced coma late Monday, and that detectives have not had a chance to interview him. Police described him as having “a cognitive disability.”
“Until we have an opportunity to interview him, police are being very careful to not release any more information,” Stessel said.
Metro police said they believe the man might have been shot at about 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of Glassmanor Drive and Irvington Street in Oxon Hill.
