Most people are used to the ubiquitous hotel card keys that are now used instead of regular keys. A business-backed coalition has launched a statewide 60-second radio ad and mail pieces opposing Senate Bill 653, legislation by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg that would give local governments more power to increase taxes.

Here is the text of the radio spot, which is similar to the wording in the mail brochure, and an analysis by Torey Van Oot of The Bee Capitol Bureau:

Dunedin, Florida – The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office says Tina Marie Foster, who was going to turn 40 on Friday, took her own life after shooting her 10-year-old daughter, Kassidie McMillin.

Foster may have been distraught over her finances. According to reports from the sheriff’s office, she was arrested back in January and was due in court on May 23 over charges that she embezzled a little more than $27,000 while she worked as an officer manager at Temperature Services Incorporated, which is an air conditioning company.

Man found shot at Fort Meade ballpark

Polk County, FL –  Right now, deputies are on the scene of a shooting in Fort Meade.

According to authorities, several hundred people were gathered in the area of French Avenue between 6th and 7th Street at the ballfields around 8:30 p.m. A fight broke out and witnesses tell authorities that shots were fired. When Deputies arrived on-scene, they found one adult male victim who had been shot.

He was transported to Bartow Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The investigations as deputies are still on-scene interviewing witnesses.
